Village Funded Garbage Pickup Program

The village pays for the basic cost of the refuse and recycling disposal program. Special pickups, additional cart rental, back-door pickup, or other unique services fees are the responsibility of residents. Arrangements for any extra services must be made by contacting Lakeshore Recycling Systems directly at (844) 633-3577. If you have any questions, call the Engineering and Public Works Department at (847) 895-7100.

New Residents

Existing Homes/Resale

Residents do not need to contact the hauler to set up garbage service; it is automatically set up by the village. If there are not hauler provided garbage carts and you would like garbage carts from the hauler please fill out the "Service Enrollment or Change Request form" on the LRS Website, or call LRS customer service at 844-633-3577.

New Construction

Call the Engineering and Public Works Department at (847) 923-6612 to get your home setup for garbage service.

Holidays

Monday through Friday's collection will be delayed by one day if any of the following holidays falls on or before the regular pick up day. Friday services will take place on Saturday.

Curbside by 7am

Materials may not be set out before 6pm the night before pickup from April 1 to Sept. 30, and by 4pm from Oct. 1 to March 31. Materials must be placed at the curbside by 7am the morning of collection.

The waste hauler will not return to pick up late set-outs. If items were out before 7am, but were not picked up, LRS Customer Service may be contacted at (844) 633-3577.

Wheeled Cart Program & Storage

Wheeled Carts with Lids

CartSizes After the initial transition period, any requests to exchange or receive a new garbage and/or recycling cart will result in a $25 movement fee per cart by Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS). Those with requests are asked to contact LRS Customer Service at (844) 633-3577 to coordinate the exchange or delivery of carts.

The LRS blue carts are made out of a heavy durable plastic. The wheels allow easy transportation to and from the curb. The lids keep garbage, recycling, and odors in while keeping the critters out. Lid color and label designates cart type.

Cart Storage

Residents have the option of storing their garbage and recycling carts/containers three different ways:

Inside the garage
Behind the home
Next to the home with screening.

If containers will be stored next to the home with screening, the village provides several ways in which residents can screen their carts, including using a semi-open fence or lattice partition, wing-wall or landscaping. Please view the Garbage and Recycling Brochure for more information.

Yard Waste (Organic Composting)

Residents have the option to rent a 64 or 96 gallon wheeled cart with lid to be used for organic waste collection at an annual fee of $36 and a one time $25 movement fee per cart by LRS. This wheeled cart was designed to remove the water from the yard waste to minimize odors. Please call LRS Customer Service at (844) 633-3577 to order Yard Waste (Organic Composting) carts. This cart is only available for single family residences.

Acceptable items for compost are:

Fruits and vegetables
Bread
Coffee grounds
Yard trimmings
Leaves
Branches or twigs
Flowers

Regular garbage, meat, bones, and seafood is not allowed. Residents can continue to use the Kraft yard waste bags for yard waste only.

Refuse Containers & Preparation

Durable metal, plastic cans with handles, or sealed impervious bags may be used to place refuse at the curb.
Check with your homeowners’ association for specific rules concerning the type of containers you can set at the curb
Containers may not exceed 33 gallons.
Refuse containers, garbage bags, and yard waste bundles may not exceed 50 lbs.
Up to two cubic yards of materials (i.e., 6'x3'x3') from “do-it-yourself” scale remodeling projects will be collected from each household, each week.
Loose materials must be placed in containers like other garbage, or securely tied in bundles not exceeding 4 ft. in length and 50 lbs.
Quantities of remodeling debris exceeding two cubic yards and large, awkward or heavy items are subject to special pickup requirements or charges. Call LRS Customer Service at (844) 633-3577 for specific instructions.
Carpet and padding must be cut into widths not exceeding 4 ft. and tied into rolled bundles; total weight should not exceed 50 lbs.
Window and patio door glass must be broken out and placed into a box clearly labeled “broken glass.”
Window or door frames must also be disassembled and placed in a box or with other garbage.
Grills and gas powered equipment must have fuel tanks removed and emptied. The empty tanks are to be placed in the trash separately.
Toilets (two piece) must be separated into two parts.
Mattress and box-springs must be wrapped in plastic and placed by the curbside on collection day. Queen and King size mattress should be set out first week and box-springs the following week. Bags can be purchased at most big box stores.
