The village does not tolerate retaliation against those who report, testify about, or participate in investigations regarding alleged improper governmental activities required by the Public Officer Prohibited Activities Act, Whistleblower Protections (50 ILCS 105/.01. and 50 ILCS 05/4.1).
The Village Manager (or designee) is appointed as the village’s Auditing Official whose duties are to receive and investigate complaints and information concerning potential misconduct, inefficiency, and governmental waste within the Village of Schaumburg.

The Village of Schaumburg is dedicated to providing excellent services and programs to meet the needs of those who live, visit and work in our community. We ask that concerned individuals submit their report in writing within sixty (60) days of notice of the alleged improper governmental activities or retaliatory conduct. If the alleged improper governmental activities or retaliation involves the Village of Schaumburg’s designated Auditing Official (or designee), the reporting party may submit their complaint to the Director of Human Resources or the Village Attorney who will investigate the complaint or retain an outside investigator to do so. A reporting individual may also report to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office.
Complaint Procedure: All reports identifying conduct that is inconsistent with this policy will be promptly and thoroughly investigated. These investigations shall remain confidential unless the reporting individual chooses to waive confidentiality, or a waiver of confidentiality is otherwise required by law. The Village Manager or designee will have the ability to carry out corrective actions and provide remedies to those affected.
RESPONSIBILTIES OF THE AUDITING OFFICIAL: The Village Manager, as Auditing Official, is responsible for determining the veracity of the complaints submitted and enforcing this policy, as well as, complying with the Act including conducting investigations consistent with this policy, retaining outside investigators if the Village Manager determines that it is necessary, and taking any steps necessary to protect the employee who reported violations.
The Village Manager has the authority to address any issues that are identified as a result of the investigation of the complaint, including a false or fraudulent complaint.
