Metra News 2024

Starting Feb. 1, 2024, Metra will be implementing changes to their fare structure. The number of fare zones will be reduced from 10 to 4. The Schaumburg Metra station will be in Zone 4, which spans from the Big Timber station in Elgin to the Roselle station. Daily fares will decrease from $7.75 to $6.75. Additional changes have been made including the elimination of the 10 Ride Ticket and the introduction of the 5-Pack Day Pass that can be used on any 5 days within a 90-day period. Tickets will be available for purchase using the Ventra App or the Ticket Vending Machine, which will be installed at the Schaumburg Metra station on Jan. 17. Tickets will no longer be available for purchase from the ticket windows.

Schaumburg is served by Metra's Milwaukee District West Line (MD-W) which connects to Chicago’s Union Station to the east and Elgin to the west.

Johnny's Coffee Shop

Johnnys Coffee Shop ATM, Metra, Johnny's Coffee

Metra riders are welcome to visit Johnny’s Coffee Shop located inside the Schaumburg Metra station. Hours of operation are Monday - Friday 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. They have a variety of coffee, tea, and convenient snacks. They also serve hot breakfast sandwiches and a selection of medicines, electronics and other travel/commuter necessities.

Ticket Purchases

Tickets can be purchased at the Schaumburg Metra Station when a ticket agent is on duty (M-F, 5:00 am – 1:00 pm).
Metra offers various fare options including single-ride tickets, 10-ride tickets, monthly and quarterly passes, and weekend passes. Reduced fares are available for seniors, students, and persons with disabilities.
- Day passes and weekend passes can only be purchased with the Ventra App
If the ticket agent is off duty, tickets may be purchased on the train or with the Ventra App on your mobile phone. If a ticket agent is on duty, but you choose to purchase your ticket from the conductor on the train, there will be a $5 surcharge.
Metra accepts all major credit cards at Schaumburg’s Metra Station, all of its downtown stations, and other stations where a ticket agent is on duty.

Dial-A-Ride Transportation – DART

The Village of Schaumburg’s Dial-A-Ride Transportation, or DART, provides service for Schaumburg residents to access the Schaumburg's Metra Train Station. When planning your journey from Schaumburg, note there is a 90-minute minimum advance reservation for service required and that you may be on the bus for up to 60 minutes, so plan accordingly. On trips returning to Schaumburg, request service for five minutes after the scheduled train arrival (just in case the train is running behind schedule
