The Village of Schaumburg is committed to ensuring all community members and visitors have appropriate access to facilities within the village, including private businesses such as entertainment, lodging, medical, restaurant and shopping establishments. This commitment also extends to ensuring the village does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its employment practices or in allowing participation in any village services provided to the public.

Employment 

The Village of Schaumburg does not discriminate on the basis of disability in its hiring or employment practices and complies with all regulation promulgated by the U.S Equal Employment Opportunity Commission under under title 1 of the ADA.

Effective Communication

The Village of Schaumburg will generally, upon request, provide appropriate aids and services leading to effective communication for qualified persons with disabilities so they can participate equally in the Village of Schaumburg's programs, services, and activities, including qualified sign language interpreters, documents in Braille, and other ways of making information and communications accessible to people who have speech, hearing or vision impairments.

Residents concerned with access to an activity, program or service provided by the Village of Schaumburg can contact the ADA Coordinator at 874-923-4702 for assistance. 

Modification to Policies and Procedures

The Village of Schaumburg will make all reasonable modifications to policies and programs to ensure that people with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of its programs, services, and activities. For example, individuals with service animals are welcomes in the Village of Schaumburg offices, even where pets are generally prohibited.

Grievance Procedure under the Americans with Disabilities Act

This Grievance Procedure is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA). It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of activities, benefits, programs or services by the Village of Schaumburg. The village's personnel manual governs employment-related complaints of disability discrimination.

The complaint should be:

  • In writing
  • Contain information about the alleged discrimination such as name, email, phone number of complainant and location, date and description of the problem
  • Signed by the complainant

Alternative means of filing complaints such as personal interviews or a tape recording of the complaint will be made available for persons with disabilities upon request.

A signed complaint should be submitted by the complainant or designee as soon as possible but no later than 180 calendar days after the alleged violation to:

Response Procedure

  • Within 21 calendar days after receipt of the complaint, a written response will be sent via Certified Mail to the complainant.

  • If the response does not satisfactorily resolve the issue, the complainant or his/her representative may appeal the decision within 21 calendar days to the Village Manager or designee.

  • Within 21 calendar days after receipt of the appeal, the Village Manager or designee will meet with the complainant to discuss the complaint and possible resolutions. Within 21 calendar days after the meeting, the Village Manager or designee will respond in writing and send the response via Certified Mail to complainant. The decision of the Village Manager shall be final.

  • If for any reason there is a need to extend any of the 21 calendar day limits, an extension may be considered after consultation between the complainant and the village.

  • All written complaints received by ADA Coordinator, appeals to the Village Manager or designee, and responses from these two offices will be retained by the Village of Schaumburg for at least three years.
