Proclamations

The Village President is honored to issue proclamations to recognize groups, milestones, or issues on behalf of the Village of Schaumburg. Proclamations may be presented at a Village Board meeting or picked up at the Mayor's Office.

To be considered, proclamations must meet at least one of the following criteria:

• Village-Wide Significance:  Must recognize a broad or community-wide issue or recognize a large group of people in Schaumburg.
• Promote Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Proclamations may be made for nationally recognized groups and organizations that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Recognize the contributions of a public official in Schaumburg or a group of public officials: Proclamations may be made to recognize public officials, who have demonstrated exemplary service.
• Local Art and Cultural Celebrations:  Proclamations may be made that promote the arts and celebrate different cultures.
• Charitable Events:  Proclamations may be made for organizations holding charitable events with direct relationship to the Village of Schaumburg and in support of the village’s mission.

Please note, proclamations are typically not issued for the following:

• Anniversaries of individuals or businesses.
• Specific individual achievements by individuals.
• Individual private businesses, conferences, or grand openings.
• Endorsement of individuals, products, or nonessential service(s).
• Matters relating to a political position or of political controversy, ideological or religious beliefs, or individual conviction. 
• Individuals or organizations who have been granted two proclamations for the current rolling calendar.

Other Ceremonial Documents 

If an organization or individual is denied a proclamation or does not fit the criteria for a proclamation, other forms of village recognition such as Certificates of Recognition or Congratulatory Letters may be issued. 

• Letter of Recognition: To recognize a specific issue affecting a small group of people less than 1,000 or an individual’s accomplishments over a longer period of time/career.
• Congratulatory Letter: To recognize an individual for a significant event.
