NamerikawaMapNamerikawa is in the northeastern Toyama Perfecture, in the Hayatsuki river delta and is bordered by the Sea of Japan (Toyama Bay) to the northwest.

Because Schaumburg is home to so many Japanese Americans and citizens, as well as more Japanese businesses than any other community in the State of Illinois, the village established a relationship with Namerikawa, Toyama Prefecture, Japan on July 4th, 1997. Namerikawa has a population of more than 32,000 residents and covers approximately 21 square miles on the northwest coast of Japan.

During August 2017, the Village of Schaumburg welcomed a group of Japanese representatives from Namerikawa through the Sister Cities Program. Namerikawa Mayor Ueda and Vice Mayor Ishikawa, community and business members and 20 junior high-school aged students came to Schaumburg along with several of their teachers and other school staff members.
