Residential Rental License Title 9, Chapter 123.03 of the Village Code states that all leased, commercial or rented property must hold a valid rental license through the Village of Schaumburg. Rental licenses are valid through December 31 and must be renewed annually. Renewal notices are sent to owners in November. Please note staff cannot take payments over the phone. Payments can be mailed to or dropped off at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center, 101 Schaumburg Court, or paid online through WebPay.
Residential Rentals (townhouse, condo or quad): Residential rental properties require a full-year payment of $75. Payments increase to $112.50 on January 1 if past due. If purchased after July 1, the pro-rated fee is $37.50 for the remainder of the calendar year.
Short-Term Rental: Short-term rental properties require a full-year payment of $175. Payments increase to $262.50 on January 1 if past due. Inspections will be conducted annually on these properties. Single Family Home Rental: licenses require a full year payment of $125 and payments increase to $187.50 after January 1 if past due. Inspections will be conducted every three years on these properties. Contact our Code Enforcement Division for more information at (847) 923-3700.
Requirements
- Submit the Residential Rental License Application Form
- You will receive an email to complete the Crime Free Housing Seminar
- Complete the Crime Free Housing Seminar
- Pay the appropriate fee
- To be completed via email online.
- Once the application, seminar, and payment have been verified your rental license will be issued and mailed.
- Allow two weeks for processing after payment has been submitted.

If you do not need a rental license but are interested in taking the Crime Free Multi-Housing Training Certification offered by the Village of Schaumburg you may do so by selecting it from the list below.

If you have family living in the property and are not collecting rent, you will not need to purchase the rental license. Just complete the Family Living in Unit acknowledgment form and email to RentalLicense@schaumburg.com.
