Food Establishments
All food establishments within the Village of Schaumburg are licensed and inspected by the Environmental Health Division. This program also includes licensing and inspecting food trucks, farmers market days and other temporary events. Unannounced inspections are conducted on a routine basis, depending on the risk classification assigned to each food establishment. Risk classifications are based on the State of Illinois Food Service Sanitation Code and other applicable food safety regulations.
The routine inspection schedule is as follows:
- Category I (high risk) Establishments - 3 inspections
- Category II (medium risk) Establishments - 2 inspections
- Category III (low risk) Establishments - 1 inspection

Grease Trap Maintenance
The Village of Schaumburg Ordinance requires all food establishments to have fats, oils, and grease cleaned and removed from the grease trap/interceptor on a routine basis by an approved State of Illinois licensed grease hauler. All maintenance must be documented on a grease trap manifest and submitted to the Environmental Health Division for review. Temporary Food Service
Temporary food service operators are required to complete the Health Division's "Temporary Food Service" form prior to the event's starting date. Please note that event coordinators may also be required to submit a "Special Event Application". For more information about this application, please contact Permit Services.

Mobile Food Vendors
All mobile food units operating in the Village of Schaumburg must be inspected by the Environmental Health Division, as part of the licensing process. It is required that the operator of a mobile food unit has a base of operation. A base of operation is a licensed food establishment that the mobile food unit can return to daily for cleaning, food preparation, disposal of waste and wastewater, and storage of food and food related items. A signed commissary agreement must be provided prior to scheduling a health inspection.
